ZIT POPPING OVERVIEW

So, do you feel like Mount St. Helens has taken up residency upon your forehead, but just won't erupt and be done with it? Then I'm sure you're thinking that it's time to take that zits popping into your own hands and cause that bad boy to spew forth its venom! As a licensed esthetician, I just want to be sure you pop that zit right.

First of all, if at all possible, perform all your popping zit escapades before going to bed. This way, any whoops will have several hours to settle down. Perhaps no one will even know you were popping the world's biggest zit the night before.

ZIT POPPING PROCEDURE

Step 1: Wash Face - Start by washing your face with a gentle water-soluble cleanser that is non-comedogenic (won't block pores), hypoallergenic (won't cause allergic reaction), and alcohol and oil-free. Be sure that the water isn't too hot so that it reddens your face or irritates the skin, not to mention damages the capillaries.

Step 2: Rinse Face - Thoroughly rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 3: Exfoliate Pimple - Using salicylic acid, gently exfoliate the skin on and around the pimple. Salicylic acid is a wonderful creation that will not only loosen and remove the dead skin cells, but will also aid in your moment of truth when the time arrives for the actual zit popping to commence.

Step 4: Steam - If you have a portable tabletop steamer, then you will want to use it now. If you don't have a steamer, do not despair, just use a warm, wet washcloth and apply it directly to that nasty little zit for about a minute. If possible, take a shower and let the steam open them thar pores.

Step 5: Pop That Zit - Wrap your index fingers with tissue, ensuring your nails are covered. Gently pull the skin surrounding the pimple outward and then gently squeeze towards the center. Triumphantly wipe that pimple pus onto your tissue covered fingers and toss immediately. Rewrap fingers and repeat the process if you didn't get all the pus out the first time. If the pimple popping did not immediately occur, then repeat your exfoliation and steaming process and then try again. If it fails after a second attempt, it is best to leave it alone for a day, as you don't want to cause permanent damage to your skin and have a scar to remember your popping zit session for years to come.

Step 6: Benzoyl Peroxide - To insure precision, use a Q-Tip to apply a little dab of benzoyl peroxide directly to your newly removed zit area. This will help to kill off bacteria and prevent the pimple from growing and/or spreading to another location.

Step 7: Aloe Vera - Whether you succeeded in your pimple popping venture or not, still apply the benzoyl peroxide to the zit and then follow with this Aloe Vera instruction. Cover the zit and surrounding area with a generous amount of Aloe Vera and cover it with a bandage. Leave it alone overnight and hopefully in the morning it will look like a pimple never even resided on your skin. Regardless, it will show definite improvement.
