TIPS FOR GOOD SKIN OVERVIEW

Although genetics do have a role in the quality of your skin, the "good news" is that you have control over your skin care routine and your lifestyle choices that have an effect upon your complexion. For example, every time you opt to not use sunscreen you are voting to put your skin at risk for an acne outbreak and to bring on wrinkles at an earlier age. Damage that can occur from exposure to your environment can be lessened with the practice of proper skin care on a daily basis. This will help to not only ward off aging, but also lessen the likelihood of an acne breakout.

TIPS FOR GOOD SKIN - DAILY CLEANSING

One of the most important tips for clear skin is to be sure it is being cleansed properly on a daily basis. It is best to wash your face twice daily and to use a cleanser that is formulated for your skin type and condition. Regardless of your skin's situation, you will want to steer clear of any soap that contains dyes, perfumes, deodorants, and harsh chemicals that may only serve to irritate, draw out oils from the skin, cause breakouts, causes excessive drying and flaking, or any other adverse reactions.

Proper cleansing of the face allows for the removal of dirt, germs, excess oil, and dead skin cells that either accumulate or settle upon the skin and ultimately wreak havoc with the quality of your complexion. Cleansers will also help to dissolve your makeup and unblock the pores.

Relying solely upon the body's process to replace collagen and elastin will only serve to age the skin sooner. To slow this process, proper cleansing and use of ingredients like AHAs and Vitamin A will help to stimulate the growth of both elastin and collagen, thus slowing the aging process a bit.

In addition, if you are struggling to get rid of acne, a proper acne skin care routine is essential to the ultimate health and clarity of your skin. This includes cleansing the skin on a daily basis, preferably twice a day.

TIPS FOR GOOD SKIN - MOISTURIZE

The purpose of a moisturizer is to add moisture to the skin. Depending upon the ingredients they can also protect and seal the surface of the skin. They can also balance the water/oil moisture levels of the skin, along with providing hydration. Everyone needs to use a moisturizer whether they have acne prone skin, oily, dry, or mature. The key to success is using one that is formulated for your skin type. Use the wrong one and the results can be simply awful.

For example, if you have oily and acneic skin and you use a heavy oil-based moisturizer, you have just set the stage for a lovely crop of acne to sprout. It does not matter how well you adhere to a daily cleansing program that is being done properly, along with using an appropriate cleanser. If you end your cleanse with an oil-based moisturizer you will have just set in motion a ticking time-bomb to exacerbate your existing problems.

The bottom line is to not be afraid of using a moisturizer after you cleanse your face. They tend to get a bad rap, but they are an excellent addition to anyone's skin care routine as they will seal the water that remains on the skin. Just be sure to select one that is appropriate for your skin type.

TIPS FOR GOOD SKIN - WEAR SUNSCREEN

As an esthetician, I must shout from the roof tops to everyone, one of most important tips for healthy skin, and that is--use a sunscreen of at least 15 SPF. Once again, it is not going to cause acne and/or oily skin to occur or become worse, as long as you use a sunscreen that is formulated for your skin type. It is the number one product that should be used if you want to have a lifetime of good skin.

Do not be deceived, the sun is not your skin's best friend; rather it will seek and destroy not only the quality of your skin, but also the overall health of it. Exposure to the sun's harmful UV rays contributes to not only skin cancer, but also to the depletion of elastin and collagen. When this occurs you can expect your skin to not only develop a leather-like appearance but it also ushers in the aging of the skin sooner and wrinkles follow closely behind. In addition, unprotected sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation, free radical and capillary damage to occur.

Lastly, not to pick on my acneic friends, but the sun will not burn off your pimples. Getting a tan is not going to dry up the excess oils and give you a clear and radiant complexion. If you long for a tan, then turn to a sunless tanning product. Now that is one of the best tips for good skin.

TIPS FOR GOOD SKIN - CONCLUSION

As you can see, you are in fact in the driver's seat when it comes to the quality of your skin. For example, you make decisions everyday how your skin is ultimately going to age. In addition, your willingness to adhere to a proper skin care routine plays a part in whether you are able to keep acne outbreaks at bay.

Therefore, next time when you look in the mirror and complain about your skin, honestly ask yourself if you are in fact doing everything in your power to achieve a clear complexion. In other words, are you maintaining all these tips for clear skin?
