BLACKHEAD EXTRACTOR OVERVIEW

If you're finding that you have far too many blackheads, which result from an accumulation of dead skin cells, excess oil and bacteria building up inside of your hair follicles, perhaps it's time to invest in the tool of choice that estheticians and dermatologist alike use to remove blackheads.

With a little practice, a bit of patience and a blackhead remover tool, which is also known as a comedone extractor, you will be able to easily remove blackheads at home. This stainless steel tool comes in various designs, but they all basically have a loop at one end that is used to encircle the blackhead for easy removal without damaging the surrounding skin. However, care must still be taken when using a blackhead extractor as too much pressure can cause trauma to the underlying tissues.

HOW TO USE BLACKHEAD EXTRACTORS

  • Sterilize the blackhead remover tool before each use in boiling water. Dry it off with an alcohol wipe.

  • Cleanse the area with a water soluble cleanser that contains glycolic acid. This ingredient is known for its ability to exfoliate. This will help to purify the skin and eliminate any excess cellular buildup that might be clogging the pores.

  • It is best to extract after a hot shower as the pores will be softened and open. If this is not possible or desirable, then you may open and soften the area with a warm, wet washcloth. Another option would be to use a tabletop steamer.

  • Place the loop over the blackhead so it is encircled and comes to rest so the blackhead is in the center.

  • Press slowly and gently while applying even pressure. This will cause the sebum that is trapped inside the hair follicle to come out.

  • If the sebum does begin to ooze out of the pore through the extractor loop, this means that it is not ready to be released. Stop immediately; do not try to force it out, as damage can result including a permanent scar.

  • Carefully wipe away the contents that have been expressed, ensuring you do not spread it to other areas of the face.

  • Once you have completed all of the desired extractions, apply an antiseptic cream to kill off any resulting bacteria, so it does not find its way back into an open pore or spread to another location of your face.
